Peggy Karr Glass makes their own colors by combining finely ground glass and ceramic pigments. Small, hand-held sifters are used to apply
color to the glass.
With the exception of the
ornaments, all of the color layers are covered with a second layer of glass.
This layer encases the design to ensure it will never fade or change color.
Most of the molds used are ceramic. They are coated with a clay dust, which keeps
the glass from adhering to the mold and gives each piece a unique pebble finish,
one side giving it a little texture to the touch and to the eye. The glass
pieces are heated to 1600° F so they can fuse together and form one piece of
glass, sealing and protecting the design forever.
