Mother's Day Gifts

It’s almost May!  Time to see if the April showers bring May flowers.  The weather has been amazingly nice overall.  We have lucked out this Spring.  And speaking of May, Mother’s Day is just right around the corner.  Do you know what you are getting for your mother?  Or are you a mother yourself and would love to have an idea to suggest to your children or significant other?

With the flowers in bloom, the perfect gift for Mother’s Day is definitely a vase to hold a beautiful bouquet.  Fenton has gorgeous pink frosted, blue glass, burmese vases and more with intricate hand painted designs that would please any mother.

Or if a vase and flowers isn’t quite right, there are always glass bears, birds, and turtles that are painted with detailed flowers.  This would bring a smile to any mother on Mother’s Day.

Snowmen Fenton

Snowmen are enjoyed by the young and the old in the winter. Instead of having to make your own snowmen that will melt with the warm weather, Fenton has some bright and cheery glass Snowmen. The snowmen, while made of white, have red, blue, green, and orange painted on them to give a fun and joyful look. Many of the snowmen have either striped or polka dot scarves. The big snowmen are fairy lights, which creates a warm glow when the candle is lit from within the glass. The smaller snowmen and snow ladies are figurines that can be used as paperweights or just as decorative pieces to display a bit of fun in the winter.

When life gives you snow make snowmen!  Or at least enjoy them in your home.

"Snowflakes falling
Thick and fast,
Build a snowman
Make him last . . .
Snowflakes falling,
Swirling, slow,
My snowman melted -
Where'd he go?"

Winter Themed Fenton

Blue and white are two of the most common winter colors.  Fenton has some beautiful blue and white winter-themed pieces that are pretty to display in any room. Some of the pieces are great for displaying flowers. All of these pieces have been painted to depict a snowy wintery scene. The scenes can be enjoyed on vases, animal figurines, candy dishes, trees, and even small glass baskets made by Fenton.
The vases are great to hold flowers, whether real or fake.  The vases can hold winter themed bouquets or even flowers that will bring a splash of color to the room.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

by Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Advent Calendars

Advent calendars, which have been around since the 19th century, are a great way to count down the days to Christmas. The advent calendar starts on the first day of December and goes through Christmas Eve. In the past, advent calendars have been done as chalk drawing or even by lighting candles. It is more common to see a wooden, fabric, or even cardboard calendar to count the days until Christmas.

Wilmot Heritage Antiques & Gifts carries wooden Byers’ Choice advent calendars of many different designs, which have little doors where small items can be placed. There are many calendars that contain chocolate or even have something that an adult or a child can move from day to day.  The wooden advent calendars can be used in many different ways. Even small objects in each compartment/door can be used each year. It is up to you how it is used and what you want to see. It can be changed up every year and enjoyed year after year.  These wooden calendars are about 15 inches in height or more, making a perfect size for the house.  They are beautiful in homes, as gifts, and treasured throughout the years.  The Advent calendars will make memories that last year after year.

Dickens Hospitality Center!

Wilmot Heritage Antiques & Gifts is hosting the Dickens Hospitality Center!  This is the first time for Antioch to host the Dickens Holiday Village.  It is an experience you will not want to miss. Take a picture as a Dickens’ character with Olde time clothes in the hospitality center and buy some holiday souvenirs such as lighted holiday canvases, candles, and Olde England cups and saucers for tea time while you are there.  Lifelike figures have been created to represent figures from the past that lived in the Dickens Era that will guide you around downtown Antioch.  Olde England has come to life in Antioch.  Enjoy the feel of “A Christmas Carole” in downtown Antioch.  Browse through the shops, boutiques and eateries while checking out the scenery.  Don't be Scrooge and forget to take historic, holiday pictures with the figures from the Dickens Era.

Woof & Poof is celebrating 39 years of making beautifully detailed, hand-crafted, high quality products. The Woof & Poof owls have big fabric eyes and beaks.  Some have bows, stuffed feet, layered fabric tummies, and all are made with autumn-styled fabric.  The owls come in brown, gray, black or white and come in two sizes. The bigger owls, which can be thought of as the parents, wear a bow tie.  There are also beautiful fall Woof & Poof scarecrows and cats to celebrate the fall season.  Add one to your home or make a collection to put in your living room.  They also look adorable on an end table or decorating a bookcase.

Genie in a bottle!

I love these perfume bottles from Fenton!  Several have detailed hand painted flowers.  They are so beautiful.  They are a treasured piece of the past.  Perfume bottles have been used as early as the 18th century.  As a collection or individual, these bottles would look great in any display.  They add a feminine touch to a dresser top, a curio cabinet or a special table.  Add a homemade doily to accent the colors in the bottle and protect the table top.  Don’t forget to put your favorite perfume in each! Use and then refill!  Bring back the romance of the past.
